Responsibilities
As a member of the UPA teaching team, you will:
Instructional & Academic Responsibilities
- Create hands-on, inquiry-based lessons that foster creativity, curiosity, engagement, and real-world problem solving.
- Lead interdisciplinary projects that integrate core subjects with career pathways.
- Incorporate at least one teacher-created or enhanced instructional activity weekly (enrichment, differentiation, or extension).
- Consistently use student data to inform instruction and reteach plans.
- Maintain 95% on-time submission of all lesson plans, assessments, and trackers.
Measurable Academic Expectations
- Each student must grow at least 5 RIT points on MAP by December and 8 RIT points by May.
- Maintain a classroom data tracker, updated weekly, showing progress toward academic goals.
- Demonstrate adjustments to instruction based on MAP, formative assessments, exit tickets, and reteach data.
Classroom Culture & Student Engagement
- Establish a positive, structured, and joyful classroom that supports learning and personal responsibility.
- Design and implement monthly classroom culture initiatives (celebrations, challenges, incentives, or community-building activities).
- Maintain strong student relationships and ensure consistent attendance, engagement, and participation.
Family & Community Partnership
- Build meaningful, positive rapport with all families.
- Complete a minimum of 5 positive parent contacts per week, logged in the school system.
- Communicate proactively with families about student progress, behavior, and celebrations.
Collaboration & Professionalism
- Actively participate in weekly PLC/team meetings, contributing ideas, resources, and problem-solving.
- Respond to team, admin, and parent communication within 24 hours.
- Implement coaching feedback within one week or the next lesson cycle, as appropriate.
- Support school-wide initiatives, testing operations, and grade-level events.
- Contribute to team culture by supporting at least two school-wide community events per semester.
Initiative & Creativity
- Create at least one student-facing initiative per semester (club, event, enrichment opportunity, community service activity, classroom showcase).
- Demonstrate independent initiative without waiting for administrative prompting.
- Bring one instructional innovation or strategy to PLC per month.

Qualifications
To be successful at UPA, you must demonstrate:
- Bachelor’s Degree (required); degree in Education preferred
- Project Based Learning Experience
- 3 or more years of classroom teaching experience
- Texas Teaching Certification or willingness to pursue within first year at UPA
- Passion for teaching, youth development, and student achievement
- Ability to maintain a student-centered culture with strong relationships
- Strong communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
- Growth mindset and openness to feedback and coaching
- High level of collaboration, initiative, and personal responsibility
- Commitment to equity for all students
- Comfort with technology and willingness to integrate tools like VR, LMS systems, and digital trackers
