What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Assistant position at unm?
The Outreach Assistant works in support of the Outreach Manager and staff personnel within the UNM Engineering Student Success (ESS) Center to perform a number of duties aimed at creating, promoting and recruiting students into the UNM School of Engineering.
- Outreach Assistant will help Outreach Manager organize, inventory, catalogue, test and manage outreach materials. In addition to researching prices and submitting appropriate requisition forms, the assistant will also track supplies used for outreach purposes;
- Repair materials or take necessary steps to ensure outreach supplies are repaired and/or stocked;
Prepare materials for outreach events organized by the department by assembling kits, packing supplies, and testing equipment; - Research and develop outreach activities under direction of the Outreach Manager;
- Be able to provide renewable energy demonstrations and presentations to student audiences;
- Learn how to facilitate National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Research Center (ERC) and other grant-developed outreach activities and presentations, and either lead or assist in conducting these activities, as needed;
- Train other student employees or student volunteers on the use of outreach materials, as needed;
- Design and implement processes in order for School of Engineering students, student organizations, staff and faculty to borrow ESS Center outreach materials & supplies;
- Represent and recruit on behalf of the University of New Mexico and the School of Engineering at community outreach events and recruitment fairs, as Outreach Assistant’s schedule allows;
- On occasion, must be able to lift and carry up to at least 25 lbs. in order to set up/tear down exhibits, tables, demos, materials at various events;
- Must be able to work independently, with little supervision;
- Other duties as assigned.
