What are the responsibilities and job description for the Herbarium Research Assistant position at unm?
- Curate a dataset of occurrence data for selected species. Occurrence data was download from GBIF for weedy species in the genus Galinsoga (Asteraceae). These occurrences need to be checked for GBIF flagged issues and cleaned to avoid duplicate records and erroneous record dates. Datasets will be used for geospatial analyses. - The supervisor will provide a hands-on tutorial to visualize and analyze occurrence data. The undergraduate researcher will make sure to install all required programs and dependencies in the computer designated for research. The undergraduate researcher will follow the tutorial and produce figures and results of the analyses therein. The main goal is to fit an ecological niche model based on native range climate that will be used to predict habitat suitability in the non-native range of North America. - A following tutorial will pertain visualizing and analyzing temporal changes in occurrence data with the goal of 1) tracking the spread of weeds from the tropics to the temperate zones and 2) tracking changes in phenology (timing and duration) through time and in native vs invaded environments.
