What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sales Representative - Moving and Storage position at University Van Lines?
University Van Lines has been moving New Jersey families and businesses since 1975. We run our own crews and our own warehouse in Rahway. No brokers, no day-labor.
You survey homes and offices, build the estimate, and close the job. Every lead we generate lands on you - website forms, Google Local Services calls, Meta leads, referrals and repeat customers. You own the relationship from first call to booked move.
What you will do
Run in-home and virtual surveys across New Jersey and New York City
Build accurate inventories and translate them into truck-days, crew size and materials
Price the job against our rate card and get final approval before it goes to the customer
Attach storage and packing to every job where they fit
Follow up on open estimates until you get a yes or a no
Build referral relationships with realtors, property managers and estate attorneys
Keep the pipeline current and honest
What you need
Sales experience with a number attached to it that you can speak to
Ability to walk a home, see the volume, and be right about it
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for daily local travel
Comfort quoting price in person and holding it
Written English strong enough for customer-facing email
Able to work as a 1099 independent contractor
What helps
Moving, storage, relocation, logistics or home-services sales background
Existing realtor or property-manager relationships in Union, Middlesex or Essex County
Estimating software experience
Spanish
Compensation and other terms
This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement, not employment. Compensation is commission only - 10% of the revenue on every job you book, with no cap. There is no hourly wage, no salary and no employee benefits. You are responsible for your own taxes, vehicle and expenses.
Estimated first-year earnings of $50,000 to $80,000 are an estimate based on our current average job value and close rate. They are not guaranteed income.
Based at 1098 Randolph Avenue, Rahway, NJ 07065, with field work across New Jersey and New York City.
