We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Communications Specialist to help bring Rocky Vista University’s (RVU) mission, values, and brand to life. This position supports the development and execution of communication strategies that connect, inform, and engage faculty, staff, students, and alumni. While primarily dedicated to Rocky Vista University (RVU), this role also supports occasional storytelling initiatives for other Medforth Global Healthcare Education institutions, contributing content across a variety of digital and print platforms.
Reporting to the Communication Manager, the Communications Specialist will help bring the RVU and Medforth brand stories to life through compelling content across a multitude of channels. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including communications, marketing, creative, recruitment, and admissions, to ensure content is aligned with key campaigns, optimized for audience engagement, and consistent in tone and voice.
Essential Functions
Content Development & Storytelling
- Research, write, and edit original content that showcases RVU’s mission, values, and community impact, developing engaging narratives featuring students, alumni, and faculty that reflect the university’s voice and brand identity.
- Develop alumni features, student spotlights, and faculty stories in alignment with the university’s storytelling strategy and institutional priorities.
- Collaborate with the Communications Manager to ensure stories support brand, enrollment, and alumni engagement goals. Contribute to cross-brand storytelling from other Medforth entities as needed.
- Assist with creating and posting internal news and employee stories to the intranet and Peak to Peak newsletter.
Editorial & Campaign Support
- Collaborate with the Communication Manager to align content with university initiatives, campaign objectives, and student journeys, ensuring messaging and tone are tailored for each audience and channel.
- Assist in translating strategic priorities and campaign briefs into compelling content deliverables, tailoring tone, voice, and format for each channel.
- Contribute to newsletters, blog posts, and campus communications in alignment with the editorial calendar.
Collaboration & Content Operations
- Collaborate with creative, marketing, and communications partners to ensure content is visually engaging, optimized, and consistent across channels.
- Contribute to the planning and upkeep of the editorial content calendar in coordination with brand and communications teams.
- Assist with managing the content pipeline for newsletters, intranet updates, and digital signage to support internal communications.
- Conduct interviews with internal stakeholders, students, and alumni to develop authentic, human-centered narratives.
Content Optimization & Repurposing
- Work with SEO and web teams to incorporate keywords, metadata, and other best practices into content pieces.
- Support content testing and performance reviews to inform future creative strategy.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an adaptable voice and tone.
- Strong storytelling instincts, with an ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging content.
- Experience creating content for multiple formats and platforms: blogs, Press releases, newsletters, and editorial.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress), email platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), and basic SEO practices.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills; comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in content marketing, journalism, copywriting, or related fields; higher education or healthcare experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or related field.
The anticipated salary range for the Communications Specialist is $58,800 - $65,500 per year. The final salary offered may vary and will be determined based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, location, and education of the successful candidate. This information is provided per Colorado local law.
