What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Manager position at University Sports Publications?
Professional and collegiate sports yearbook and gameday program publisher based in Manhattan and Lynbrook with sales offices nationwide seeks an Accounting Manager to report to its CFO. Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and have 4 years of public/private experience. The company maintains a casual work culture but the job can at times be fast-paced and demanding, requiring a professional who is collaborative, self-motivated, organized and hands-on. He or she must possess strong oral and written communications skills, and technical accounting competence with the ability to manage and supervise a small accounting staff.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES include (but are not limited to) the following:
Review bank accounts daily and code/record cash activity
Reconcile bank accounts to the general ledger
Assist with accounting for credit card transactions – payments and receipts
Assist with year-end and interim financial statement closes
Assist with compliance filings across multiple states and various government entities
Prepare schedules for audits and reviews
Cover for other department members for time off
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Strong accounting background with solid understanding of debits and credits and the financial statement impact of transactions
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
Experience in protecting sensitive and confidential information.
Must be able to meet deadlines and accurately complete tasks in a timely manner.
Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with all levels of staff and clients in multiple offices.
Must be able to work independently
Must be self starter with drive, positive attitude and initiative.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
Strong understanding of cash accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, trial balances and general ledger accounting
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
4 years of successful/related work experience
Solid work ethic, professionalism, positive attitude and a sense of humor a must
