What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower School Music Teacher position at University School of Nashville?
To plan and implement opportunities for students to engage with music both by creation and appreciation; help students develop enjoyment of and appreciation for music through an articulated and forward-thinking curriculum; design music experiences that include singing, playing, creating, and performing music; work with homeroom teachers to integrate and connect to the curriculum.
Qualifications:Responsibilities
- Inspire a love and joy for music in children grades K-4
- Teach LS music to each class one time per week. 20 classes/ week; 352 students
- Create a sequential program that builds musical literacy, performance skills, and appreciation for diverse musical traditions
- Plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate lessons that incorporate singing, movement, instruments, and creative expression
- Demonstrate experiential teaching methods that incorporate cultural, social, and kinesthetic approaches to teaching music
- Organize and direct student performances, assemblies, and special events throughout the school year
- Work collaboratively with homeroom teachers to design projects that integrate diverse music into units of study
- Build relationships with community members to bring diverse and interesting experiences into the lower school
- Participate in planning and alignment of curricular best practices
- Develop a working understanding of relevant and appropriate music education standards
- Work collaboratively with the K-12 music faculty, as well as the lower school team
- Communicate in a timely and professional manner
- Attend all K-12 and divisional meetings and inservice
- Perform other duties as determined by Lower School Administration and the Director of School
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Master’s preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching music in a school setting
- Experience building an elementary school music program
- Ability to accompany on piano preferred

- Foster a love of music and mastery of music concepts in young children
- Be a creative and innovative leader with the ability to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming music environment for our students
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills
