Position Overview
University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men is seeking a dependable and proactive School Maintenance Worker to support the upkeep and operation of school facilities and grounds. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
The Maintenance Worker works under the direct supervision of the Chief Operations Officer/Chief Financial Officer
Key Responsibilities
- Perform minor and major building repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of HVAC systems, lighting, plumbing, and other infrastructure
- Maintain school grounds, including mowing, landscaping, trimming, snow removal, and litter control
- Assist with general cleaning duties in classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and common areas
- Identify and address safety hazards; ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Monitor and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies; notify supervisors when replenishment is needed
- Collaborate with staff and administration to prioritize and complete maintenance requests
- Assist with setup and breakdown for school events and activities
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues and facility-related concerns
- Perform routine inspections of the building interior and exterior
- Support emergency response efforts related to facility issues
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in facility maintenance, repairs, or groundskeeping preferred
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems
- Experience operating hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of general maintenance and repair practices
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic facility issues

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $16.00 – $25.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
