Job Summary: Provide nursing care to patients under the direction of physicians and/or registered nurses Job Description: Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide general nursing care to patients including obtaining patients’ history, taking vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, height, weight, pulse, respiration, etc.); assist physicians and/or registered nurses during examinations and testing Perform diagnostic testing as required (ekg’s, urinalyses, etc.) Administer prescribed treatments, medications and injections as directed by physicians and/or registered nurses Record patient observations in electronic medical record; report patients’ conditions and reactions to drugs and treatments Review encounter forms for level of service, diagnoses, provider signatures before discharging patients Review patients’ insurance and obtain authorization for procedures medications, tests, or admissions when necessary Instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions as ordered by physicians Review laboratory/test results Recognize abnormal laboratory values and test results and notify physicians Chart medication orders in medevant and/or electronic medical record Prepare examination rooms including stocking of treatment areas Establish and maintain productive working relationships with people inside and outside the department and/or practice Supervisory Responsibilities: None Additional Responsibilities: Assist with audits and research Other duties as may be assigned Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Current Michigan Licensed Practical Nurse License 1 year nursing experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred Current BLS/AED Certification Knowledge of nursing theory and practice Knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, JACHO and HIPPA regulations Knowledge of Public Health Code and Michigan Nurse Practice Act preferred Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations Good written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face, telephone and electronic) Good analytical and judgment skills Ability to use computer software programs and systems Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel and/or financial data Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks and manage time Safety Requirements: Compliance with departmental Health and Safety policies and procedures Mandatory TB test annually (based on Department guidelines) Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Exemptions or accommodations to the Wayne Health vaccine requirement may be approved under certain limited circumstances. Anyone with an approved exemption must have weekly PCR COVID-19 testing on their own time and submit the results every Monday, before arriving at work.
