Position Summary:

The Director of University Counseling Services is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic planning, and management of the university's Counseling Services. This role involves developing and implementing policies and procedures, overseeing clinical and administrative operations, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality mental health services to the university community. This position oversees and manages personnel, operations, policy, logistics, and strategic planning. The Director of University Counseling Services serves as the primary liaison for the student University Counseling Services (UCS) to the university and surrounding community. The role provides direct counseling and education services to students and consultation to students, faculty, and staff. TheDirector of University Counseling Services ensures staff and programs work collaboratively and effectively with other areas of the university. The salary for this position is $90,000, commensurate with experience.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and direct the strategic planning and operations for university counseling services

  • Develops an inclusive, holistic work and clinical environment for university counseling services.

  • Provide clinical consultation for counselors and counseling services

  • Ensure compliance with counseling services policies and standards of practice

  • Manage counseling office and operations, including annual budget planning and accounting.

  • Serve as a liaison to campus and community stakeholders

  • Exercise supervisory authority for the counseling services clinicians and staff.

  • Implement and utilize best practice mental health assessment tools to improve counseling services for students.

  • Maintain up to date policies for university counseling clinicians and services, including crisis management.

  • Stay up to date on information related to crisis and mental health management, and communicating these effectively with campus stakeholders.

  • Serve on university, community, and UW-system committees as needed (e.g., Behavioral Review and Recommendation Team).

  • Build and maintain cooperative relationships with campus and community stakeholders.

  • Establish infrastructure in UCS to serve as a "point of distribution" in case of emergency or disaster.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Master's Degree in public health, nursing, mental health/counseling, medical/hospital/clinic administration or related field.

  • Medical or mental health licensure in the state of Wisconsin, such as Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Social Worker, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

  • 2-5 years of clinical or mental health administrative experience

  • 2-5 years of supervisory experience

  • Education, knowledge, and/or experience in public health
