Job Summary:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a Teaching Faculty to provide classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction for undergraduate students, plus administrative support for the Certificate in Architecture. The primary courses of instruction are CIV ENGR 159, Civil Engineering Graphics, and other introductory undergraduate courses (e.g., INTEREGR 170, Design Practicum). Ad hoc support of other courses including CIV ENGR 451, Architectural Design, and CIV ENGR 578, Senior Design Capstone, is also a possibility.

CIV ENGR 159 covers graphical communications including lettering, drawing equipment and techniques, geometric constructions, orthographic projections, technical sketching, isometric views, descriptive geometry, and computer-aided design drawing, with applications specific to civil engineering. Expansion of duties to include instruction of other tools such as Civil 3D and Revit will be considered. The teaching schedule for Fall 2026 is already established and applicants are expected to be present for the scheduled sections.

The UW-Madison Certificate in Architecture is intended to provide UW-Madison students an opportunity to explore theories and practices of architecture, and the design and meaning of the built environment within socio-political, historical, cultural, and ecological contexts. It is a 15-credit certificate requiring participants to complete courses from departments across campus. The certificate coordinator is responsible for the programmatic and administrative functions of the Certificate in Architecture. Specific responsibilities include the following:
- Meet with prospective students interested in the certificate; promote student interest in architecture across campus
- Prepare meeting agendas and schedules for the certificate committee
- Advise enrolled students on four-year academic plans, including study abroad options
- Work with the College of Engineering to analyze program data, student needs, and program modifications
- Coordinate with on-campus and external (e.g., UW-Milwaukee partners)
- Provide annual deliverables on the Program for the University, College of Engineering, and ABET

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
  • Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance
  • Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $71,500.00, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
  • Four years of experience creating scaled images using AutoCAD and basic tools for manually-created drawings, either in an educational setting or in the practice of engineering or architecture
  • Experience in engineering software, including AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, SketchUp, Bluebeam Revu
  • Experience with instruction

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and facilitating active and blended learning techniques
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems
  • Experience with advising undergraduate students

Education:

Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field is required.
