Job Duties:

Provides professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus community, incorporates a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional and behavioral needs of students, creates developmental programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping behaviors across campus, and provides strategic direction and advocacy for university mental health policy and initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares presentations and outreach activities and facilitates student adjustment and success programs to promote a healthy campus
  • Facilitates psycho-educational and process-oriented groups
  • Provides counseling and/or information and referral services to faculty and staff
  • Serves on multidisciplinary campus committees
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students struggling with developmental and/or personal mental health issues and refers students to appropriate community resources

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field, PhD, or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology or related field, at time of appointment

  • A current Wisconsin license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist) at time of employment (08/17/2026) or ability to be fully licensed in the state of WI within 2 years of hire)

  • 1 year of related behavioral health experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage, as applicable, in prevention/education, assessment, DSM-V diagnosis, treatment planning, and counseling intervention activities

  • Skilled in individual and group counseling techniques, evaluation of counseling effectiveness, and in group presentations

  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, database) and the Internet

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A current Wisconsin license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist)

  • Experience working with young adults or in a university setting

  • 2 years of related behavioral health experience

  • Experience in working with issues related to: sexual assault, relationship violence, suicide prevention, LGBTQ, multicultural counseling, alcohol and drug abuse and academic success

Conditions of Employment:

Position is an overall 75% Academic Staff appointment, with expectation to work full-time during the academic year and a seasonal break during the summer. Some travel is required for necessary work at other campus locations, meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. Occasional evening and and/or weekend work is expected and will be assigned by supervisor as needed.

A pre-employment education check which includes, but is not limited to, the verification of academic credentials will be conducted on the finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s) and if there is prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct. In addition, eligible employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually and paid parental leave. Eligible employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.

Employee Misconduct
