Job Duties:

The Associate Athletics Director for Finance reviews, analyzes, and prioritizes requests for financial resources in multiple areas in support of efficient day-to-day operations of the Athletics Department. This position prepares the annual budget and is responsible for leadership of all financial systems within athletics. This position will manage personnel and planning and will guide the work of the Financial Specialist and one additional staff member. Reviews department work for compliance with reporting regulations, develops audit schemes, and recommends and implements fiscal policies to provide for compliant, accurate, and timely reporting within the Athletics Department.

This position also serves as department liaison with Human Resources, supporting all activity regarding employment status of staff including on/off-boarding of employees. As part of this role they will provide support for recruitment, facilitate open records requests, and monitor and process payments for Athletics staff.

This position will prepare the annual NCAA/EADA reports and leads the audit. Other responsibilities include leading the business operations and serving as liaison within the Athletics department on areas including but not limited to team store, raffles, concessions, reconciliations of tickets, etc.

This position reports to the Athletic Director with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Controller.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs the solicitation, review, and awarding of funds from grant programs and integrated research projects occasionally.
  • Recommends, interprets, disseminates and implements unit-focused fiscal policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with established rules, regulations and financial guidelines.
  • Implements the unit personnel resource allocation plan including hiring, training, supervision, and resolution of personnel issues.
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Participates in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of automated financial information systems and accounts and ledgers for multiple functional areas.
  • Plans, schedules and directs financial operations, budgets, allocations and compensation plans for a specific fiscal work unit.

Minimum compensation of $70,000

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or other related field at time of application
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in accounting or budgeting or financial management
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills in working with a diverse community.
  • Aptitude to manage multiple projects and have the ability to prioritize and work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts.
  • Proficiency using database, spreadsheet, word processing and other applicable software applications. Microsoft office suite experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience in higher education field.
  • Master’s degree in business or related field.
  • Experience with EADA reports and NCAA audit.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA and/or Horizon League rules and regulations.

Conditions of Appointment:
