The full time night shiftPATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 2(NE H SEIU 1199NW UWMC Northwest Service and Maintenance) position will be located at University of Washington Medical Center Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW) within the UWM PFAS ED Registration Department.
The Patient Services Specialist 2 (PSS-2) will under general supervision of the Emergency Registration Department Supervisor or designee, has primary responsibility for performing a variety of admitting department tasks including but not limited to: Patient registration, general clerical support, customer service, and operating the switchboard. Employees will be cross-trained and expected to work efficiently and effectively in all assignments.
Under general supervision, the primary responsibilities of the Patient Services Specialist 2 (PSS-2) include:
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Performs admitting or pre-admitting procedures upon arrival of patients. This includes inpatients, individuals who have hospital-based outpatient testing or outpatient procedures, patients in the Emergency Room, and patients for scheduled/unscheduled procedures and surgeries.
Greets, directs, and assists patients.
Ensures patients understand admission policies and procedures.
Collects necessary information to register patients.
Switchboard Operation includes but is not limited to: Promptly, courteously, and calmly answers all calls through the switchboard.
Implements emergency procedures calmly, efficiently, and accurately.
Greets all patients and visitors in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner.
Other duties as assigned.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:
Be able to recognize priority information and duties, respond appropriately and maintain patient safety and smooth unit operations.
Accurately scheduled clinic appointments.
Demonstrate proficiency in the use of communication devices on the unit (telephone, fax, email, etc.). Continually identify department when answering the telephone, speak in a confident, friendly manner that conveys a positive reception.
Direct calls to appropriate staff in a timely manner.
Receive, record, and distribute accurate patient information and diagnostic results to appropriate staff.
Maintain awareness of others and greet patients, family, visitors, and staff in a manner that conveys a positive reception.
Effectively command medical terminology and pharmacology.
Complete annual review requirements (fire/safety, infection control, and other as appropriate).
Accurately process lab specimens.
STANDARDS OF DAILY PRACTICE:
Participates in the development/testing/implementation of new organizational systems for the unit or
department.
Identified by others as exceptional in coordinating/prioritizing, delegating and multi-task
orientation; performance reflects extra care and attention.
Follows up on projects, orders and/or requisitions to ensure completion.
Acts as a resource for staff.
Acknowledged by other staff to be a role model in courteous communication (in-person, telephone,
etc.) with health care team members, visitors, patients, and family.
REQUIREMENTS:
PATIENT SERVICES SPECIALIST 2 REQUIREMENTS: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of healthcare, administrative, or customer service experience OR equivalent education/experience.
DESIRED:
Working knowledge of medical terminology
Health industry experience
Experience working in admitting and/or switchboard operations.
Customer service in a clinical setting
Able to work in a high volume, fast paced work environment and perform and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
