The Food Systems Research Center (FSRC) seeks a data scientist to lead the development of data infrastructure, management, analysis, and visualization for a vibrant, growing, transdisciplinary research center. The FSRC is the first research center focused on food systems formed in collaboration with the US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS). Focused on finding solutions to our most pressing global challenges through food systems, the FSRC funds research within and beyond UVM exploring sustainability, resilience, and equity in small and medium food systems across the Northeast US. The inaugural data scientist will help develop the data management and infrastructure systems to enable transdisciplinary research collaborations, sharing of data with public entities and partners, and coordinate across government and academic platforms. The data scientist works with research teams and original data to develop data ontologies for transdisciplinary research, as well as data analyses and visualizations for academic and public audiences. We especially seek candidates who have experience working across disciplines, with varying data types and people of different backgrounds and experiences, and in team science efforts. The data scientist will join a dedicated team at the FSRC who help foster food systems work within and beyond the university, in partnership with Northeast partners.
