Porter Maintenance Tech II

JOB DESCRIPTION:

In this position, you'll perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide variety of building and facility systems while leveraging your technical expertise to complete specialized repairs within your trade area. Whether your background is in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or general facilities maintenance, you'll have the opportunity to apply your skills in a dynamic healthcare environment where your work directly impacts patients, visitors, and caregivers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment, building systems, and infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, and general building systems.
• Complete specialized repairs and maintenance tasks within your area of technical expertise.
• Support the maintenance and upkeep of hospital grounds, facilities, and site infrastructure.
• Respond to service requests, maintenance issues, and facility emergencies in a timely and professional manner.
• Utilize the Hospital Equipment Management System (HEMS) work order system to document maintenance activities and track repairs.
• Assist with inspections, testing, and maintenance activities required to ensure regulatory compliance and operational reliability.
• Work effectively in environments that require prioritization of multiple tasks and frequent interruptions.
• Collaborate with Facilities team members and other departments to maintain a safe and functional healthcare environment.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records while adhering to safety procedures and healthcare facility standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five years of maintenance, facilities, or skilled trade experience.
• Experience in one or more technical trades, including HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or general building maintenance.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Competent written communication and basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to effectively prioritize work, manage multiple responsibilities, and perform in a fast-paced environment.
• Customer service focus with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred:

• Seven or more years of experience in a skilled trade discipline.
• Experience in healthcare, commercial, industrial, or institutional facilities maintenance.
• Knowledge of healthcare facility regulations, building codes, and compliance standards.
• Experience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order systems.
• Specialized trade certifications, licenses, or technical credentials.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Depending on departmental assignment and area of specialization, the following certifications or licenses may be preferred or required:

• Fiber optic splicing certification.
• Category 3 and Category 5 cabling certification.
• Type I, II, or III CFC certification.
• State of Vermont Class "S" Electrician License.
• Class II licensure through the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE).

KNOWLEDGE & COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to become knowledgeable in applicable state and national building codes, healthcare facility regulations, and Joint Commission Environment of Care standards.
• Understanding of facility safety practices and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to utilize standard office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, calculators, and label-making systems.
• Commitment to maintaining compliance, safety, and operational excellence within a healthcare environment.
