Role Description The Research Laboratory Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Salt Lake City, UT. This position supports laboratory research activities by performing routine and specialized experiments under the direction of the principal investigator and senior research staff. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing samples and reagents, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, and managing and organizing an animal colony. The technician will follow established protocols and safety guidelines, and help ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. The role also involves collaborating with team members, troubleshooting basic technical issues, and pursuing and contributing to their own project within the lab.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills for data interpretation, problem solving, and evaluation of experimental results.
- Foundational laboratory skills, including sample preparation and reagent handling.
- Ability to operate, calibrate, and maintain common laboratory equipment.
- Research skills, including following experimental designs, documenting methods, and maintaining accurate records.
- Basic immunology skills, such as aseptic technique, culture handling, and genotyping genetic animal models.
- Bachelor’s degree in a life science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and laboratory experience.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
- Experience in an academic research laboratory setting is preferred but not necessary with enthusiasm to learn as a team.
