The Employee Relations (ER) Specialist supports the ER team by managing case intake, documentation, and routine casework in accordance with university policy and applicable state and federal laws.
The Specialist performs tasks under the direct daily task supervision and guidance of a sr. consultant, who serves as a mentor.
This is a training role designed to develop foundational skills in ER case management and operations.
The ER Specialist assists with case management, investigation support, and data tracking.
Will manage compliance related warnings and disciplinary actions as assigned by consultants (e.g., PRN/PT Releases, Probationary Releases, Separations Due to Unavailability), sr. consultants, and/or director.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care. This role is a developmental role and may be reclassified to a consultant based on performance and growth.

Responsibilities
Case Intake & Documentation: Receive, log, and assign ER cases this will include the shared inbox; ensure all documentation is complete and accurate; maintain confidential case files.
Routine Case Management: Manage assigned ER cases through established protocols, including scheduling meetings, gathering statements, and preparing standard correspondence.
Policy & Procedure Support: Provide employees and managers with general information about ER policies and procedures; escalate complex or sensitive issues to ER Consultants/Sr. ER Consultants.
Investigation Support: Assist ER Consultants/Sr. ER Consultants with investigations by gathering documentation, scheduling interviews, and preparing case summaries.
Data Tracking & Reporting: Maintain ER case tracking systems; run routine reports for the ER team; correct basic data discrepancies.
Training & Development: Participate in ongoing training to develop ER knowledge and skills; support the development of job aids and training materials for common ER processes.
Collaboration: Work closely with ER Consultants/Sr. ER Consultants on case handoffs, timelines, and follow-ups; support team projects and initiatives as assigned.
Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other operational and administrative duties to support the ER team (e.g., under the direction of consultant, sr. consultant, director, may be assigned documents for review and or research).
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Demonstrated ability to perform operational tasks outlined above with high attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple cases and deadlines in a high-volume environment.
Working knowledge of employment-related concepts (e.g., employee relations, workplace investigations, conflict resolution) sufficient for intake, documentation, and routing; complex interpretation handled by consultants.
Confidentiality and discretion with sensitive employee information.
Effective written and verbal communication; customer-service orientation when interacting with employees and managers.
Proficiency with case management systems, shared inboxes, and spreadsheet tracking tools.
Qualifications
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalency required.
Two years of experience in HR operations, employee relations support, and/or related administrative work.
Qualifications (Preferred)
Preferred
Exposure to employee relations casework, intake processes, or investigation support.
HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP or aPHR) is a plus.
