Job Description:
The Student Support Specialist will provide individualized academic access support to a blind student in classroom, laboratory, testing, tutoring, and other campus settings. The purpose of the role is to reduce disability-related access barriers while supporting the student’s independence and full participation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain the student’s confidentiality
- Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and objectively describe visual information
- Experience working with blind or visually impaired individuals preferred
- Experience providing tutoring or academic support preferred
- Ability to maintain neutrality, confidentiality, and academic integrity while proctoring examinations
- Dependable, responsible, punctual, and professional
- Respectful of individual preferences, learning styles, and student autonomy
- Ability to follow multi-step instructions and complete tasks efficiently
- Comfortable using computers, learning-management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other relevant technology
- Ability to learn and safely operate classroom or laboratory equipment when necessary
- Willingness to complete all required safety, confidentiality, and institutional training
- Flexible availability based on the student’s class schedule, examinations, tutoring needs, and other academic responsibilities
- Reliable transportation or ability to travel between assigned campus locations
