Position Summary
The Library Assistant III -Metadata Assistant is responsible for assisting with all projects related to copy cataloging, MARC , bibliographic, and holdings records retrieval, editing, clean-up and reconciliation in order to maintain the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of the UIW Libraries Discovery System as well as the reflection of these holdings in OCLC . Position also assists with the enhancement of discovery related to records of all types of library information resources, including owned, licensed, and open access, as well as records in the UIW Libraries’ institutional repository.
The Metadata Assistant helps faculty, students, and community discover appropriate resources by the quality and consistency of records in the discovery system and in the national bibliographic database. The Library Assistant III -Metadata Assistant reports to the Metadata & Cataloging Librarian.

- Identifies and imports pre-existing and appropriate records from OCLC , ALMA ( LSP ) Community Zone, or vendors.
- Edits records to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to institutional and national standards.
- Verifies subject heads, classification numbers, and name authorities.

- Applies appropriate standards such as LC, NLM classification.
