Essential Functions


The Career Coach plays an essential role in the University of Texas Permian Basin’s Career Services team, supporting the mission to engage all students in meaningful career development before, during, and after college. This position focuses on delivering individualized coaching, developing impactful career readiness programs, and building strong partnerships across campus and within the community. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and employers, the Career Coach empowers students to identify their strengths, gain relevant experience, and confidently pursue professional opportunities. This role contributes directly to the University’s goal of improving career outcomes and preparing students for lifelong success in an evolving workforce.

1. Provide individual and group career coaching to students and recent alumni, covering career exploration, résumé and cover letter development, job search strategies, interview preparation, and networking.
2. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of coaching sessions, outreach efforts, and program activities.
3. Create and update engaging digital and online career development content, ensuring resources remain relevant and accessible.
4. Collect and analyze engagement and outcome data to inform program enhancements and meet reporting requirements.
5. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to integrate career readiness into the academic experience and promote Career Services offerings.
6. Conduct outreach campaigns through social media, classroom visits, and email to increase student participation in events and services.
7. Plan and coordinate workshops, employer panels, and other professional development events that support students’ career growth.
8. Serve as a mentor to students, helping them build confidence, professionalism, and self-awareness as they prepare for career success.

Required Qualifications


1. Bachelor’s Degree.
2. One (1) year experience in Career Counseling, Advising, or related field.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.

Preferred Qualifications


1. Experience working with diverse student populations.
2. Familiarity with career assessment tools and techniques.
3. Knowledge of the job market and employment trends.
4. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
