Essential Functions
Function:
To provide assistance in medical/research laboratory.
Scope:
Responsible for the performance of routine repetitive tasks in the preparation of laboratory supplies
Typical:
- This position requires working primarily with mice. The responsibilities are:
- Breeding mice and maintaining offspring
- Recording daily/weekly mice work (Record body weight, exercise volume, and food intake weekly; measure glucose and insulin tolerance tests).
- Performing animal surgery to measure the pressure-volume relationship of the heart and survival surgery.
- Perform tissue collections.
- Maintains updated complete animal experimental records.
- Train and assist all personnel with mice experiments, policies, and procedures.
- Training will be provided.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Personal computer and equipment used in the laboratory assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in a related field.
- Two years of laboratory experience can be substituted for one year of education; must have at least three years of college coursework.
- Previous experience with handling laboratory mice.
- Have an understanding of general research objectives and be familiar with routine research procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organizations.
- Steady hands to perform survival mice surgery
- Must be well-organized with attention to detail, both experimentally and with communication.
- Must be self-motivated with excellent time-management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Able to use various laboratory instruments through training or experience
- Previous experience or training in performing mouse experiments
- Perform many molecular, biochemical, and cellular experiments independently.
- Accurately document experiments to ensure that work can be replicated by others.
- Collect, analyze, compile, interpret and evaluate research results and report progress to the principal investigator
- Calibrate, sanitize, sterilize, maintain, and properly clean laboratory equipment and environment.
