Salary
Salary Range: $31,200/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours per Week
Non-Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions
Function:

To provide assistance in medical/research laboratory.

Scope:

Responsible for the performance of routine repetitive tasks in the preparation of laboratory supplies

Typical:
  • This position requires working primarily with mice. The responsibilities are:
  • Breeding mice and maintaining offspring
  • Recording daily/weekly mice work (Record body weight, exercise volume, and food intake weekly; measure glucose and insulin tolerance tests).
  • Performing animal surgery to measure the pressure-volume relationship of the heart and survival surgery.
  • Perform tissue collections.
  • Maintains updated complete animal experimental records.
  • Train and assist all personnel with mice experiments, policies, and procedures.

  • Training will be provided.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Personal computer and equipment used in the laboratory assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in a related field.
  • Two years of laboratory experience can be substituted for one year of education; must have at least three years of college coursework.
  • Previous experience with handling laboratory mice.
  • Have an understanding of general research objectives and be familiar with routine research procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organizations.
  • Steady hands to perform survival mice surgery
  • Must be well-organized with attention to detail, both experimentally and with communication.
  • Must be self-motivated with excellent time-management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Able to use various laboratory instruments through training or experience
  • Previous experience or training in performing mouse experiments
  • Perform many molecular, biochemical, and cellular experiments independently.
  • Accurately document experiments to ensure that work can be replicated by others.
  • Collect, analyze, compile, interpret and evaluate research results and report progress to the principal investigator
  • Calibrate, sanitize, sterilize, maintain, and properly clean laboratory equipment and environment.

This position will be primarily located:

On Campus: Primary work location will be on the UTSA Main campus.
