Job Summary
The Accountant I position supports the financial operations of the Extension and Extended Campus division by performing accurate and timely accounting activities with a focus on service contract invoicing, travel reimbursement processing, and ongoing accounting support. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the Division and university. The Accounting I ensures financial results are accurate, consistent, and compliant with institutional, state, and federal guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, research, and process vouchers, deposits, accounts receivable, pro-card purchasing and reconciliation while ensuring accuracy, timeliness in compliance with Institutional, state and federal guidelines.
- Manage and maintain travel submissions in Concur ensuring complete, accurate, and timely submissions within established policies, procedures, and deadlines.
- Assist the Manager in monitoring cost centers and projects and ensuring alignment between internal tracking and UTShare/Peoplesoft financial system.
- Support timely closeout expired contracts and cost centers using established institutional processes.
- Provide support for day-to-day accounting functions to meet operational needs and assist business units.
- Participate in cross-training to develop knowledge of both division-specific and general accounting processes, ensuring adequate coverage and business continuity across teams.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Proficient Excel skills.
- One (1) year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles.
- Experience with Concur and/or PeopleSoft.
