The College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks an engaging nurse anesthesia educator and academic leader for a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment at the Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. This faculty role also serves as the Program Administrator/Concentration Coordinator for the Doctor of Nursing Practice - Nurse Anesthetist program. Details on the College of Nursing Programs are available at https://nursing.utk.edu/About the PositionThe Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor - Program Administrator/Concentration Coordinator provides academic, educational, and clinical instruction, and administrative leadership for the Nurse Anesthesia Program, ensuring excellence in program quality, student outcomes, and regulatory compliance. This faculty leadership position is responsible for maintaining full compliance with accreditation standards established by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), as well as applicable university, state, and federal requirements.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs, this faculty role provides oversight for all aspects of program administration and operations, including curriculum design and continuous improvement, clinical education and experiential learning, student mentorship, program assessment, and accreditation activities.

Faculty Responsibilities· Teach graduate nurse anesthesia and DNP courses in areas of expertise, including development of course objectives, learning activities, instructional materials, examinations, grading rubrics, and other assessments.

• Design, deliver, and evaluate simulation-based education, including high-fidelity anesthesia scenarios, skills laboratories, debriefing, and competency assessment.
• Provide direct clinical instruction and supervision of nurse anesthesia students in affiliated clinical settings, consistent with student level, patient acuity, case complexity, safety requirements, and accreditation expectations.
• Evaluate student performance in didactic, simulation, and clinical settings; provide timely formative and summative feedback; document achievement of competencies and clinical requirements; and implement or oversee remediation when needed.
• Serve as academic advisor and faculty mentor for nurse anesthesia students and chair or serve on DNP scholarly project committees as assigned.
• Maintain currency in nurse anesthesia clinical practice, educational methods, simulation pedagogy, accreditation standards, and certification requirements.
• Engage in clinical scholarship, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, professional dissemination, and/or educational innovation consistent with the clinical faculty role and assigned workload.
• Participate in faculty governance, college and university committees, professional service, recruitment, orientation, and other responsibilities expected of full-time faculty.Program Leadership and Administrative Responsibilities· Provide overall leadership, authority, and accountability for the academic and clinical components of the Nurse Anesthesia Program while retaining an active faculty teaching role.
• Lead curriculum development, mapping, implementation, evaluation, and continuous revision to ensure coherence, appropriate sequencing, and alignment with DNP Essentials, nurse anesthesia competencies, certification expectations, and program outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), university, state, and federal requirements; serve as the primary program contact for accreditation matters.
• Provide oversight of clinical education, including clinical site quality, student placements, appropriate supervision, case and experience requirements, student safety, and the clinical learning environment.
• Lead systematic program evaluation and continuous quality improvement using student outcomes, clinical data, stakeholder feedback, certification results, attrition data, and other measures.
• Mentor and coordinate program faculty; contribute to faculty recruitment, onboarding, workload planning, development, and evaluation in accordance with college and university policies.
• Oversee student admissions, progression, remediation, conduct, and dismissal processes in collaboration with appropriate faculty and academic leaders.
• Develop and administer the program budget and recommend allocation of faculty, staff, clinical, simulation, equipment, and other resources.
• Maintain effective partnerships with clinical agencies, preceptors, faculty, students, alumni, professional organizations, and accreditation bodies.
• Delegate appropriate responsibilities to the Assistant Program Administrator and other faculty while retaining final program authority and accountability.
  
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications· Earned DNP or PhD from an accredited institution, conferred by the time of appointment.

• Current, unrestricted registered nurse licensure in Tennessee or eligibility for licensure through the Nurse Licensure Compact by the time of appointment.
• Current certification/recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
• At least three years of professional practice experience as a CRNA, with professional accomplishments commensurate with the proposed faculty rank.
• At least two years of teaching experience in a nurse anesthesia or related graduate nursing program.
• Documented effectiveness in didactic, simulation, and/or clinical teaching and in assessment of student learning.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate nurse anesthesia curriculum and clinical learning experiences.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.Preferred Qualifications· Experience in academic program leadership or administration.
• Experience with COA accreditation, program self-study, reporting, and continuous quality improvement.
• Experience designing and facilitating high-fidelity simulation.
• Evidence of clinical scholarship, quality improvement, professional dissemination, or educational innovation. This position is open to those who qualify and can be appointed as one of the following ranks in the College of Nursing. Rank appointment is dependent on education and qualifications relative to the university and college standards and will be determined by academic leadership in accordance with faculty handbook, policies, and procedures. Clinical Assistant Professor: This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or terminal degree appropriate to the field or who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate. Individuals holding this rank have shown promise for excellence in areas of responsibility recorded in the hiring unit’s annual documentation of the NTT faculty workload distribution and responsibilities. Clinical Associate Professor: This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or a terminal degree appropriate to the field and who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate. Individuals holding this rank have demonstrated excellence in areas of responsibility recorded in the hiring unit’s annual documentation of the NTT faculty’s workload distribution and responsibilities. Clinical Professor: This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or a terminal degree appropriate to the field and who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate.
