The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC seeks a full-time Assistant/Associate/Professor of Clinical Radiation Oncology for its Radiation Oncology practice at Keck Medical Center of USC, Los Angeles, CA.

The successful candidate will be a board-certified or board-eligible clinical medical physicist with expertise in Gamma Knife radiosurgery, and will be crucial in planning and delivering high-quality patient care using a new Elekta Gamma Knife for stereotactic radiosurgery. The successful candidate will provide: direct physics consultation with attending physicians; design and create treatment plans for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and Gamma Knife patients; perform patient-specific quality assurance (QA) procedures; supervise SRS and Gamma Knife simulations and treatments; coordinate with neurosurgeons and radiation oncologists to determine imaging and planning goals for patients; perform quality control activities for equipment maintenance and calibration, including service and required regulatory quality assurance; maintain standards and regulation requirements (e.g., NCR, State, ACR); perform quality assurance and testing on treatment planning systems (Eclipse, Aria, GammaPlan), simulation/imaging equipment, Gamma Knife radiosurgery components, and QA equipment; consult with radiation oncologists, referring surgeons, staff, and patients; and, provide routine therapy physics services.

Required qualifications include: Master's or PhD in medical physics; experience with Gamma Knife (Esprit) technology; certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) in Therapeutic Radiological Physics is strongly preferred, but candidates who have completed part 2 of the ABR certification process will be considered; and a minimum of 5 years of applied and varied clinical radiation therapy physics experience is preferred.

Additional qualifications include: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required; knowledge of state, federal, and professional regulations is required; a strong commitment to providing excellent service and a desire to take initiative and ownership of tasks are required; the ability to pay strict attention to detail and be well-organized is required; comfort dealing with a variety of complex patient-specific situations is required; and, the ability to actively problem-solve by seeking, developing, and implementing viable solutions is required.

The annual base salary range for this position is $170,000-$279,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
