Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Biological Resources department is seeking to hire a Laboratory Animal Technician I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
- Provides routine animal husbandry in accordance with written and verbal instructions.
- Feeds and waters animals daily per procedures.
- Changes and washes soiled cages.
- Cleans and repairs feed troughs, pens, cages, and other animal care facilities.
- Observes animals for signs of illness or injury and reports abnormalities to supervisor.
- Observes and records animal room environment and conditions.
- Collects and labels fluid or stool samples for diagnostic evaluation.
- Prepares and maintains routine records such as animal count, identification, weight, medication, and food consumption.
- Under supervision, provides minor technical assistance and handles and manipulates animals according to instructions.
- Unloads and stores feed and bedding materials.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
- Related duties as required.
