Responsibilities
- The Respiratory Therapy Student shall be under the direction of a licensed Respiratory Therapist.
- This individual shall be responsible to provide respiratory care and services to patients.
- Duties and responsibilities are limited to those within the scope of practice of an unlicensed respiratory therapist acting under the direction of a licensed respiratory therapist, to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care.
- This position may have additional duties assigned that are within the scope of the role.
- Assist with assessments, administer treatments (oxygen, nebulizers), monitor vitals, and learn life support procedures.
- Set up, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, and manage medical gas cylinders.
- Support licensed therapists, nurses, and physicians in developing and implementing care plans.
- Maintain a clean, safe clinical environment and restock supplies.
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Related duties as assigned
Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
- Must qualify for student status by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy Required OR
- be a recent graduate with a temporary license from the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Care. Preferred
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting Preferred
- Temporary license if applicable Required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
