Responsibilities

Performs a variety of related digital image management tasks as necessary. ie exceptions, annotations; processes computerized image data; performs Nuclear Cardiac imaging and/or Nuclear Medicine examinations as assigned; may be assigned to Nuclear Cardiology or Nuclear Medicine, as determined by supervisor /director.; maintains competency by demonstrating a complete working knowledge of all imaging equipment and proper positioning for exams; adjusts immobilization devices and equipment, with physician guidance when needed, to obtain diagnostic images; responsible for the procurement, preparation, quality control, calculation, identification, documentation, administration, disposal, storage, and safe handling of radiopharmaceuticals and other radioactive materials; prepares and maintains records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing, and disposal activities; operates radiation detection and measurement instrumentation; calibrates instruments and reviews calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction; calculates for correct dosage in dose calibrator, observes patient dosage for treatments under direct supervision of physician; monitors department with survey meter for possible contamination; adheres to all Radiation Safety requirements and maintains knowledge of requirements, medicolegal responsibilities and status governing Nuclear operations, including but not limited to Alabama Department of Public Health, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Radiation Safety Committee, and Joint Commission; performs or assists with the performance of accreditation requirements for the American College of Radiology (ACR) or Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC); educates the patient and uses techniques that minimizes radiation exposure to patient, general public, and health personnel consistent with ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable); reviews orders, checking for special instructions from physicians and consults with physician as needed; pleasantly greets patient, confirming their identity using two identifiers and introducing oneself; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team; completely explains procedure to the patient and family, if present; performs visual preventive safety inspections of all equipment used and communicates problems to supervisor/ /director; maintains necessary inventory of supplies, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items; maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the department; recognizes emergency situations and initiates code procedures as needed; completes all aspects of a patient’s exam, including ensuring images are available for physician review in a timely manner, charging procedures, radioisotopes, and supplies, and documenting history or additional notes; protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and procedures; maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and/or participating in professional societies; completes all mandatory educational requirements in a timely manner; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others, and improves the performance of the unit; may assist with training of students; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, completion of an approved course in Nuclear Medicine Technology, and ARRT (Nuclear Medicine) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist registry eligible.
