Job Purpose

The Director of the IDEA Center leads its development, operation, and strategic direction, fostering its use by the university and regional community. Reporting to the Dean of the Library within Academic Affairs, the Director oversees programs, partnerships, and initiatives that support project-based learning, industry collaboration, and community engagement. The Director integrates the Center into academic programming, supports grant-funded and community projects, and will grow the IDEA Center into a community hub for applied learning and innovation.

Essential Duties

  • Provide strategic leadership for the IDEA Center, aligning its mission with the University's Jesuit values and priorities in teaching, research, and community partnerships
  • Serve as the primary facilitator for IDEA Center programming, including both academic instruction and non-credit-bearing community education initiatives
  • Support and promote the use of the IDEA Center by faculty and students for coursework and projects
  • Collaborate with the Division of External Affairs, academic deans, and other campus stakeholders to develop revenue-generation streams with regional employers invested in workforce development, training, and engagement
  • Collaborate with the Division of External Affairs, Office of Community-Based Learning, Enrollment Management, academic deans, and other campus stakeholders to support K-12 engagement with the IDEA Center
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and training processes to ensure the safe, secure, and efficient use of the IDEA Center's resources and services
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise students to support the safe, secure, and efficient use of the IDEA Center
  • Establish and support an IDEA Center advisory committee that includes the Dean of the Library, Senior Vice President from the Office of the President, and representatives from students, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders
  • Manage the IDEA Center's budget within spending thresholds set by the Dean of the Library

Additional Skills Required

  • Demonstrates a proactive and positive attitude, adaptability in dynamic environments, strong collaborative skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a high level of personal initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication, and people skills
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement and diligence
  • Must respect, support, and contribute to the University's Catholic and Jesuit mission

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Preferred Education

  • Master’s Degree preferred

Minimum Job Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in one of the following areas: program management, innovation initiatives, educational programming, entrepreneurial incubators, community engagement activities, or equivalent enterprises.- Experience operating desktop fabrication software (e.g., CAD or CAM) and equipment like 3D Printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines. The successful candidate does not need to have experience operating all fabrication equipment, but should have experience with at least one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of career and technical education and/or workforce development issues and experience working with senior-level community partners- Demonstrated experience in working with undergraduate students- Ability to build and manage strong relationships with internal and external partners- Experience with grant writing and grant management- Experience with data management and analysis

Schedule/Work Hours

Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as required.
