The University of San Diego Campus Recreation department is seeking motivated, reliable, and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as Lifeguard & Swim Lesson Instructors. POSITION OVERVIEW
This dual role involves both proactive lifeguarding and active swim instruction. You will monitor our 25-yard x 40-yard outdoor college pool and teach "Learn to Swim" levels to children ages 3–12.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Swim Instruction: Teach American Red Cross "Learn to Swim" levels (Pre-K through Level 6). Provide feedback to parents and evaluate student progress.
- Lifeguarding: Monitor pool activities, enforce safety guidelines, and respond to emergencies using ARC rescue procedures.
- Facility Care: Open/close the pool deck, manage equipment, and ensure the facility is clean and secure.
SCHEDULE & DURATION
- Summer (Main Season): 30–40 hours per week. Typical shifts are Mon–Thurs (9:45 AM – 7:15 PM) plus one weekend shift (Fri–Sun).
REQUIREMENTS
- Certifications: Current Lifeguard Certification (LGB) and CPR/First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer required.
- Physical: Ability to move 25 lbs and work in direct sunlight/outdoor elements.
- Skills: Proactive lifeguarding, strong communication with children/parents, and a team-player attitude.
- Preferred: WSI Certification or 1 year of experience teaching youth swim lessons.
