Summary
The University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary (USML) is the major seminary and graduate school of theology for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Mundelein Seminary is one of the largest priesthood preparation programs in the United States having graduated over 4,000 students since 1926 and serving thirty (30) dioceses in the United States and abroad.
The University of Saint Mary of the Lake seeks an enthusiastic and mission-oriented individual to serve as the Electronic Resources Librarian (ERL). The ERL will be responsible for managing the complete life cycle of electronic resources, including cataloging and metadata access, discovery, assessment, reporting, data analysis, (removal/deletion), problem resolution, monitoring of trends and best practices in e-resources management (discoverability) and the user experience. Performs other tasks as needed.
Core Leadership Functions
- Coordinates the installation of and access to religious, theological, and related resources in various electronic formats (Web-based databases, electronic journals, e-books, etc.), providing the most reliable means of access to these resources.
- Serves as system administrator for all library computers and servers supporting library functions.
- Coordinates system administration responsibilities for integrated library system (Ex Libris Alma/Primo VE) with the Technical Services Librarian.
- Becomes an Alma and Primo VE certified administrator and acts as backup for administrator in selecting configuration options for these systems.
- Create reports in Alma and individual databases as needed, including but not limited to usage statistics, user experience statistics, collection analysis and overlap.
- Monitors listservs for Alma and Primo VE.
- Manages display options, search options, labels, etc. in Primo VE.
- Manages access to e-resources for USML patrons, including troubleshooting as needed.
- Manages administrative and troubleshooting functions for EZ Proxy, and e-resource vendors for access, and authentication.
- Evaluates the scope and quality of research resources available.
- Stays current with best practices and emerging trends and technologies in electronic information and delivery and digitization protocols through reading, classes, workshops, and conference participation.
- Supports the mission of the seminary.
Essential Job Functions
- Imports, manipulates, and manages metadata for all electronic resources in Alma.
- Creates relevant publications (promotional materials, tutorials, bibliographies, library web pages, etc.), and maintains the library website (SpringShare).
- Acts as liaison to CARLI (Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries of Illinois) for electronic resource and database issues.
- Provides instruction in using both print-based and electronic resources by means of class presentations, informal workshops, individual sessions, and interactive media.
- Imports, manages, and edits metadata for accuracy in e-resources
Ancillary Job Functions
- Plans and implements installation of and access to library resources in electronic formats.
- Serves as system administrator for ILS and all computer workstations in the library.
- Manages electronic resources access and licensing.
- Presents instruction in using electronic resources.
- Develops and maintains policies, procedures, and other types of documentation as needed.
- Mentors and provides guidance to department support staff.
Education and Experience – Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Master of Library Science (MLS) or Management Information Systems (MIS) degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program, required.
- Minimum one to three years of professional experience in academic library technical services or electronic resources management, preferred.
- Experience with electronic collections and databases, required; EBSCO, ProQuest, CARLI, and SCELC, preferred.
- Experience with integrated library systems (ILS), required – Ex Libris Alma/Primo VE, preferred.
- Experience with bibliographic databases and electronic resources, required; OCLC (MARC coding) and discovery layer PRIMO VE, preferred.
- Experience working with electronic resource tools such as open URL, EZproxy, preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint), required.
- Knowledge of Library of Congress LLC, LCSH, FAST.
- Demonstrated web development skills, preferred.
- Experience with and ability to troubleshoot electronic resource access issues.
- Instructional experience with library resources, preferred.
