SUMMARY:

The Leadership Giving Officer helps advance the University of Richmond's mission to provide an academically challenging, intellectually vibrant, and collaborative education that prepares students for lives of purpose and leadership-while also supporting the University's public campaign launch in the fall of 2026. This position contributes to that mission by:

  • Identifying, qualifying, and cultivating a high‑volume portfolio of leadership‑level prospects
  • Soliciting and securing four and five figure philanthropic commitments, strengthening the donor pipeline
  • Deepening donor relationships that support continued and increased giving over time


The Leadership Giving Officer manages a portfolio of rated prospects primarily in the Northeast U.S., with concentrated activity in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Additional travel and virtual engagement will occur in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine to cultivate and steward alumni and parent relationships. The Leadership Giving Officer will be responsible for meeting annual performance metrics and contributing to team-wide fundraising goals.

Representing a nationally recognized liberal arts university that combines the intimacy of a small college with the resources of a major institution, the Leadership Giving Officer will secure support to expand access, enhance academic and athletic excellence, and strengthen meaningful student experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven success in soliciting and closing four- and five-figure philanthropic gifts
  • Strong judgment and discretion, with an understanding of, or willingness to learn, ethical principles in higher education fundraising
  • High level of professionalism and integrity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse constituencies
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with a commitment to collegiality, honesty, and transparency
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with a sense of humor, are appreciated
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising software (e.g., CRM/database systems)
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a robust travel schedule


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of three years of experience in fundraising or a comparable role, with a strong track record of success in donor engagement and gift solicitation
  • Experience in higher education fundraising is preferred


WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Standard hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with extended hours as needed
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required (e.g., Charter Associate events, Family Weekend, Reunion)
  • Frequent travel expected


SALARY STRUCTURE:

Salary Range begins at $58,110 to $86,299 annually, commensurate with experience

Job title will be commensurate with experience (Assistant Director, Associate Director, or Sr. Associate Director of Leadership Giving).

This position is based onsite at the University of Richmond. While primarily in-person, there may be opportunities for a hybrid work arrangement depending on departmental needs and individual performance.
