The Wells lab investigates the role of host-intrinsic genetic factors that determine the development, maintenance and function of the immune system in barrier tissues, particularly the skin. There are opportunities for independent projects within the mission of the laboratory, based on the applicant’s skills and goals. Applicants that are interested in having their own independent project are encouraged to apply.
The applicant will support the function of the laboratory and assist scientists conducting experiments in cellular and molecular immunology. The applicant should have experience with flow cytometry and basic immunological techniques. A significant task will include maintenance of the mouse colony, which includes breeding, weaning, PCR-based genotyping, and record keeping. The applicant should be very eager to learn new techniques and improve existing techniques.

Essential Functions
- Perform independent laboratory work and experiments, including analysis and interpretation of murine and human cell culture experiments. These will involve cell isolation from organs, immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, cell sorting, cell culture, and other techniques, including cloning. Writes reports and summaries of findings.
- Oversees specimen inventories.
- Maintains lab and chemical inventories. Assists with ordering as needed.
- Prepares data for presentation to the group and for publication.
- Assist with training of other lab members in basic immunological procedures.
