What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Storytelling & Multimedia Content position at University of Pittsburgh?
Performs a variety of editorial duties (e.g., laying out, indexing, proofreading, and revising content of written materials) in preparation for final publication for multiple complex projects adhering to style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements. Prepares, rewrites, and edits copy for multiple moderately complex projects for internal and external publication. Oversees publication production and assists with prospective manuscript work. Identifies subjects, interviews sources, and writes articles.
Athletics Administration
The Director, Storytelling & Multimedia Content reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Social Media Strategies, and serves as a strategic leader for long-form, feature-driven, and narrative storytelling for Pitt Athletics. This position is responsible for elevating the department’s brand through feature writing, podcast production, and enterprise storytelling initiatives to enhance recruiting, strengthen donor engagement and drive fan affinity.
Essential Functions
The Director, Storytelling & Multimedia Content is responsible for leading the strategic storytelling vision for Pitt Athletics by developing and executing a comprehensive multimedia content strategy that enhances recruiting, elevates national brand perception, and drives fan and donor engagement. The position oversees the production and editorial direction of high-impact feature writing and enterprise journalism, establishing the department’s long-form voice while ensuring consistency, quality, and competitive positioning across all sports. Additionally, this position serves as Executive Producer for flagship podcast and audio initiatives, guiding concept development, guest strategy, production oversight and distribution planning to ensure premium, platform-specific storytelling aligned with institutional expectations. The position will also serve as communications contact for select sports.
Physical Effort
Mostly sedentary. Individual will be required to walk and stand at events and games.
