Overview of LPS
The College of Liberal and Professional Studies in the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts and Sciences is dedicated to extending learning beyond traditional borders and engages a richly diverse population of intellectually capable students at many points in their lives. LPS programs include professional and academic programs (including study abroad and English language programs for international students and professionals), summer sessions, non-credit programs, workshops, and symposia. LPS programs all have a foundation in the arts and sciences. Each year LPS offers 600 credit courses for undergraduate and graduate, degree and non- degree students as well as non-credit courses focused on areas such as personal enrichment, professional development, and English as a second language.
The Temporary Part-time Evening-Weekend Technical Support Specialist will provide technical support for online and hybrid courses on weekend evenings (Saturday and Sunday, 4-12pm ET). Additionally, the Temporary Part-time Evening-Weekend Technical Support Specialist will assist with online course-building, documentation, and other projects as assigned.

Key responsibilities of the Temporary Part-Time Evening-Weekend Technical Support Specialist include providing technical support for online and hybrid courses in Freshdesk; quality-assurance checks in Canvas and other platforms; writing and editing technical documentation; course-building in Canvas and other platforms; maintaining and editing records and spreadsheets for course operations and projects; survey-creation in Qualtrics; testing and reporting on new teaching and learning tools; and other tasks assigned by the Associate Director of Operations and the Technical Support Manager.
The work schedule for this position is Saturday and Sunday, 4pm to 12am EST (16 hours week), with the opportunity for occasional additional hours on weekday evenings during busy times (not to exceed 29 hours per week). Occasional holiday hours maybe required if a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
The Temporary Part-time Evening Technical Support Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Online Operations.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for online and hybrid courses in Freshdesk.
Handle quality-assurance checks in Canvas and other platforms.
Write and edit technical documentation.
Course-build in Canvas and other platforms.
Maintain and edit records and spreadsheets for course operations and projects.
Survey creation in Qualtrics.
Test and report on new teaching and learning tools.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
High School degree with 5-7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor's degree preferred.
1-3 years of professional experience working with faculty and students or similar customer service
Expertise troubleshooting technical problems
Familiarity with online learning technologies, Canvas functionality, and multimedia design
Excellent communication skills
Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Experience working on remote or hybrid teams and supporting clients remotely
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
Experience with supporting users in a helpdesk, including a ticketing system like Freshdesk
Experience with technical platforms administration, such as Canvas, Zoom or similar synchronous platform, Panopto or similar multimedia management platform, remote proctoring tools, online discussion tools like VoiceThread, MOOC platforms like edX and Coursera, and survey tools like Qualtrics
Familiarity with best practices in online teaching and learning design
Knowledge of accessibility best practices and standards, particularly in online learning
