The Field Education Director will work collaboratively to support and guide daily and administrative operations of field education in the MSW Program, including adherence with and reporting on Council on Social Work Education accreditation standards. The position will maintain all forms, procedures, and policies relevant to community-engaged education, including the Field Evaluation, the Field Manual, and Field Placement for the MSW Program. The position works collaboratively with SP2 students, agency-based personnel, SP2 practice instructors, and SP2 field liaisons to facilitate optimal field education experiences. The MSW Program Field Education Director will be a leader and resource in improving the current Sonia database; engage in continuous quality improvement of SP2 field education; lead Seminars in Field Instruction and other continuing education workshops for agency-based social workers; and staff field-related programmatic committees and events.

All SP2 staff are required to participate in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Provide administrative leadership and oversight of field education in the MSW Program, including:

  • Adherence with and reporting on Council on Social Work Education accreditation standards.
  • Maintain all forms, procedures, and policies relevant to community-engaged education, including the Field Evaluation, the Field Manual, and Field Placement for the MSW Program.
  • Lead collaborative efforts to update the field manual each year and complete finalized updates that incorporate feedback from MSW Team for use at the start of each academic year.
  • Lead collaborative and timely updates for field evaluations as prompted by CSWE EPAS updates and other indicated revisions.
  • Develop and lead all MSW-related field education communications with all stakeholders, including SP2 staff, instructors, students and agency-based staff and field instructors

Identify, develop, and maintain optimal field placements by engaging new field placement sites and maintaining positive relationships with existing field placement sites, as follows:

  • Collaborate with the Community-Engaged Professional Education Director and Community-Engaged Professional Education Administrator to develop and oversee completion of all evaluation documents for students and agencies.
  • Conduct outreach to agencies to review student learning in field placements and mediate issues that may be raised by students, field instructors, and/or SP2 field liaisons and instructors related to field placement, Identify, and address any challenges or barriers that hinder field-based learning.
  • Collaborate with the MSW Program Administrative Director on ensuring field placement sites establish and abide by affiliation agreements, as needed.

Facilitate successful field education experiences for all stakeholders by:

  • Collaborating/communicating with MSW students, agencies, and other key personnel, including agency-based field instructors, SP2 field liaisons, and SP2 faculty regarding social work education, social work practice expectations, and field-based supervision.
  • Review and assess agency-based social work learning opportunities, arrange individual field placements for each student through in-person and phone-based meetings, review student and agency requests, match students and placements each year, and consult with agency-based social workers and MSW students on agency-based learning.
  • Oversee assignment of students to appropriate settings in collaboration with MSW Program staff and other master’s degree program staff. Facilitate ongoing communication between students, field instructors, practice instructors, and field liaisons, ensuring routine and specialized communications.

Collaborate with SP2- and agency-based personnel on the development of innovative field education programming and engage in continuous quality improvement of SP2 field education by assisting the MSW Program Administrative Director and MSW Program Faculty Director with the design and implementation of new field education models.

Drawing on specialized knowledge of social work education, design and lead Seminar in Field Instruction, which provides social workers with the knowledge and skills necessary for supervising and teaching social work students, through approximately 6 meetings/year with 30-40 field instructors and other continuing social work education workshops for field instructors occurring 3-4 times/year. Lead orientation, training, ongoing support, and feedback for 14-16 field liaisons and collaborate with field liaisons to facilitate optimal field education experiences.

Consult on admissions and recruitment of SP2 MSW students, including responding to Admissions Office requests to review admissions files, interview students, and attend admissions events.

Participate in and represent SP2 in local, regional, and national social work field education organizations and meetings Staff field-related programmatic committees and field office events, including MSW Governance Committee, field education meetings, Student Climate and Engagement meetings, individual and group meetings with field liaisons, practice instructors, and students.

Other duties as assigned. All SP2 staff are required to participate in convocation and graduation ceremonies as needed.
