Department Summary

The University of Oregon Intercollegiate Athletic Department's primary purpose is to provide a unique opportunity for student-athletes to be developed, tested, and encouraged to reach their maximum potential in every aspect of their lives. It is the steadfast goal of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to provide the most outstanding student-athlete experience by helping them to achieve excellence, both in the classroom and in their chosen sport. The department has approximately 250 administrative & classified employees and hosts over 600,000 spectators annually and represents the University of Oregon in athletic competition with other universities & colleges.

Position Summary

The Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development plays a central role in shaping the holistic experience of Oregon student-athletes — supporting their growth as individuals, professionals, and community contributors. This position advances the department's commitment to student-athlete success beyond the competitive arena by leading mentorship programming, supporting student-athlete governance, and contributing to a campus culture grounded in diversity, equity, and belonging.

Reporting directly to the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development, the Coordinator will carry a broad portfolio that spans program management, individualized student-athlete support, event planning, and committee engagement. The ideal candidate brings both operational capacity and a genuine commitment to student-athlete development as a discipline.

The Coordinator is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Intercollegiate Athletics Department, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University of Oregon, Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, sports administration, education, or a related field
  • Experience working with student-athletes in an advisory or developmental capacity
  • One year of professional experience in intercollegiate athletics, OR documented experience as a collegiate student-athlete with demonstrated relevant transferable skills

Professional Competencies

  • Ability to utilize organizational and time management skills, including experience planning and executing events
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to engage effectively with a diverse student-athlete population
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally; proficiency with standard productivity and communication software
  • Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, NCAA rules and regulations, and compliance expectations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Big Ten Conference Fellowship experience
  • Master's degree in education, counseling, sports administration, or a related field
  • Experience in Division I athletics at the collegiate or conference level
  • Experience working with student-athletes from a wide range of educational and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Familiarity with career development theory, service-learning theory, and college student development frameworks
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and multimedia tools (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, video editing software)
