Department Or Program Summary

The School of Accounting (SOA) is one of five academic units (finance, marketing, management, and operations and business analysis being the other four) that make up the Lundquist College of Business (Lundquist), which is one of nine colleges and schools within the University of Oregon (UO). The SOA is accredited by the AACSB and less than 2 percent of business schools have an AACSB accounting accreditation.

The mission of the SOA is threefold: to focus on high-quality education by providing excellent undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs; to advance scholarship through the production of basic research published in high-quality academic journals; and to make an important impact on the accounting and business communities in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

Engagement with members of the accounting profession shapes our school. In accordance with our mission, we work to engage with accounting professionals on a regular basis, which often translates to updates in our curriculum and programming. Through our advisory board, the Accounting Circle, and memberships in professional organizations such as the Oregon Society of CPAs, our faculty have frequent interactions with outside constituents working in the accounting profession, which provide opportunities for revisions to courses to better prepare our students. To glimpse some of the outcomes of alumni and donor investments in accounting education, please see our Prospectus, the school's annual magazine.

About The University

The University of Oregon is one of only two Pacific Northwest members of the Association of American Universities and holds the distinction of a “very high research activity” ranking in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The UO enrolls more than 20,000 undergraduate and 3,700 graduate students representing most states and 93 countries. The UO’s 295-acre campus features state-of-the-art facilities in an arboretum-like setting within the traditional homelands of the Kalapuya people.

Eugene often appears on lists of the most liveable communities in the country. It enjoys the cultural amenities of a larger city – hosting concerts that span the musical spectrum, a world-famous Bach Festival, and many other festivals and celebrations – and the accessible real estate, lack of traffic, and relaxed lifestyle of a small city. Recreational possibilities abound, ranging from hiking or mountain-biking picturesque trails to playing nationally ranked golf courses to running the same paths on which Olympic athletes train. (Known as Tracktown USA, Eugene hosts the US Olympic Track & Field trials, as well as numerous other sporting events tied to the Big Ten athletic conference.) Eugene lies just 60 miles from ski resorts in the mountains to the east and 60 miles from the scenic Oregon coast to the west. In the heart of Oregon wine country, Eugene also enjoys a nationally recognized food scene.
