COMPENSATION RANGE : 60,000.00 - 70,000.00 USD per year

Position Summary :

Full-time, 12-month appointment in the Kinesiology, Nutrition and Dietetics department (KiND) within the College of Natural and Health Sciences. Responsibilities include directing the distance Dietetic Internship Program; maintaining internship program accreditation and student records; coordinating with program faculty, preceptors and administrators involved with the internship; providing online education and advisement to interns and preceptors; participation in the oversight of the master's degree Coordinated Dietetic Internship.

Job Duties :

  • 50% Managing all components of the Dietetic Internship Program at UNC including maintaining ACEND accreditation
  • 25% Recruiting and coordinating preceptors and supervised practice sites, recruiting, selecting, and enrolling interns
  • 25% Overseeing delivery of Dietetic Internship practicum hours as instructor of record for FND 592 sections.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • This position requires a master's degree in foods, nutrition or related field; Dietetic Registration (RDN) for a minimum of three years.
  • The successful candidatewould have experience related to ACEND accreditation, collaborative / outreachpartnerships, college-level teaching, online teaching and program management;practical experience in area of expertise related to dietetics and / or management;interest in student advisement / mentoring; evidence of activity in professionalorganizations and membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Current Dietetic Registration is required.
  • Knowledge appropriate for a dietitian is required along with knowledge of dietetic internship program accreditation and curriculum requirements. Online teaching skills, computer skills and evaluation of current field related literature is necessary. The ability to make decisions and excellent communication skills via email and phone are essential.
  • Through working with a several different systems, platforms, and departments within the university (KiND, Extended Campus, IMT, a large amount of problem solving is required for this position. Because the distance model of the Dietetic Internship is is somewhat unique to UNC, there may not be many relevant examples to use for policy and processes. The DI Director may at times need to develop and adopt new policies and processes. The student intern population is also unique in their geographic locations, academic backgrounds, non-traditional status, and goals. Thus, each student must be advised individually to best meet needs. Creativity is needed to develop and maintain a 'community' of belonging and support among interns who do not meet with faculty and each other face-to-face. Creativity is also needed to maintain and update a handbook with very clear instructions and specific information.

    The Kinesiology, Nutrition and Dietetics (KiND) department is made up of expert faculty and staff in areas of exercise science, human performance, physical education, sports administration, nutrition, and dietetics. Housed within UNC's College of Natural and Health Sciences, KiND is joined by other nationally recognized academic programs, such as nursing and the Colorado School of Public Health. At the undergraduate level, UNC offers a BS in Dietetics; BS in Nutrition; Minor in Nutrition; a Distance Dietetic Program (DDP). At the graduate level, UNC offers an MS in Dietetics; Distance Dietetic Internship; MS in Dietetics with the Distance Dietetic Internship. With the master's degree curriculum fully online and the Distance Dietetic Internship, this program is accessible to students throughout the country.
