Position Summary:
Organize, direct, and administer all aspects of the University of Northern Colorado’s (UNC) athletics compliance program. This position exists to ensure institutional control, maintain adherence to NCAA and Big Sky Conference regulations, and protect the integrity of UNC Athletics.
Job Duties:
Leadership Team Participation (5%)
Serve as a member of the Athletics Leadership Team.
Provide impactful leadership to UNC student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
Oversight of Compliance and Eligibility Operations (50%)
Provide strong, innovative leadership in all compliance and eligibility functions. Responsibilities include setting strategic goals, ensuring accountability, and maintaining effective communication across the department.
A. Education
Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive education programs for student-athletes, coaches, staff, donors, and external constituents.
Ensure education programs are efficient, innovative (e.g., web-based), and exceed NCAA, Conference, and institutional standards.
B. Monitoring
Oversee and refine UNC’s compliance monitoring systems.
Manage technology systems (e.g., JumpForward) to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
C. Eligibility Certification
Lead the eligibility certification process in partnership with faculty athletics representatives and university offices (Admissions, Registrar).
Maintain databases (e.g., SharePoint), streamline processes, and implement NCAA best practices.
D. Roster Management
Oversee roster management processes with effective communication, checks and balances, and NCAA CAi software utilization.
E. Academic Review/Admissions
Coordinate with the Student-Athlete Academic Success Center on academic reviews.
Serve as primary contact for NCAA Eligibility Center, ACT, and SAT testing centers.
F. NCAA/Conference Waivers, Reports, and Forms
Prepare and submit NCAA and Big Sky forms, waivers, and mandated reports.
Analyze and ensure accuracy of information before submission.
G. Rules Interpretation and Violation Management
Provide timely and accurate rules interpretations.
Investigate alleged violations, prepare self-reports, and coordinate corrective action with senior leadership and faculty representatives.
H. Compliance Audits
Assist with annual internal audits in coordination with the University Auditor and General Counsel.
Serve as the athletics liaison for NCAA/Conference external audits.
Compliance Department Leadership (30%)
Serve as UNC’s primary Compliance Director.
Supervise compliance staff, oversee JumpForward operations, and ensure staff training.
Build strong relationships with University departments (Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, General Counsel).
Serve as the main contact with the NCAA and collaborate with the Faculty Athletics Representative.
Financial Aid Policy/Processes (15%)
Assist with the development and oversight of policies governing athletic financial aid (academic year, summer, medical aid, etc.).
Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations and effective use of CAi software.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of three years of full-time NCAA Division I compliance experience. Must have integrity, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills required
Ability:
Knowledge of NCAA compliance software, LSDBi, RSRO, Microsoft Office Suite; preferred experience with Banner and JumpForward (or equivalent).
