Department Summary
The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to create transformational experiences for all HSC students by providing tailored support and fostering holistic development. There are 8 functional units within the Division of Student Affairs, including the Center for Academic Performance (CAP). CAP is committed to partnering with all UNT Health students to help them meet their personal and academic goals by providing comprehensive academic support.
Position Overview
Hourly employees in this position support current UNT Health students through services including one-on-one, small group, drop-in, and large group tutoring. Center for Academic Performance tutors provide tutoring in-person and/or virtually. This position requires use of multiple online platforms and regular email monitoring. Employees are responsible for timely communication, session documentation, and adherence to CAP policies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Successfully graduated from a program at UNT Health.
- Graduated with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher from UNT Health.
- Was in good academic standing during time at UNT Health (no instances of academic probation; or conduct sanctions.)
- Compliant with all assigned institutional training in Bridge (no overdue items.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organization skills.
- Excellent communication skills (must be responsive to communications)- Ability to document activities accurately.
- Ability to follow policies and procedures with attention to detail.
- Ability to identify high yield information and present it in various formats.
- Ability to coach students through content using different learning strategies.
- Ability to facilitate group learning in small group and large group settings (if opting-in to this service).
- Ability to provide an encouraging environment for all students.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience as a tutor, TA, supplemental instructor, or in another educational position is a plus.
Job Duties
- Monitor and respond to requests for tutoring.
- Host tutoring sessions in-person and/or virtually in one or more of the following formats: one-on-one, small group, drop-in, large group tutorial (LGT.)
- Document tutoring activities.
Physical Requirements
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.

- No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Work Schedule
Flexible schedule (self-determined) - Up to 19 hours per week - Hours vary based on student needs; hours not guaranteed - Must submit at least 1 hour of work every 6 months to remain employed
