Department Summary

The Department of Family Medicine/ Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is a multifaceted, interdisciplinary team of dedicated healthcare providers and researchers who are committed to providing excellence in clinical care, primary care education, and research. Through innovative curricular designs, early clinical experiences, and mentorship, the Department is focused on producing highly competent, caring, and compassionate Family Medicine/OMM physicians, helping reduce the shortage of primary care physicians in our Texas communities.

Position Overview

The Family Medicine Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking a part time Assistant/Associate Professor faculty member in the Office of Rural Medical Education (ORME) to teach and mentor Doctor of Osteopathy medical students for the Rural Osteopathic Medical Education (ROME) programs. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

* Assist with the planning and facilitating of ROME Courses, ROME events, and other ROME programming Participation as faculty through a combination of classroom instruction, clinical instruction, and Rural field trips.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree (D.O.) or Doctor of Medical Degree (M.D.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Knowledge and experience in using various teaching methods to create an effective learning environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple responsibilities, including teaching, research, and clinical duties.

Job Duties

  • Participate in ROME activities.
  • Attend ROME team meetings.
  • Assist with curriculum development and planning.
  • Assist with special projects as requested.
  • Assist in small group teaching in a clinical setting.
  • Facilitate ROME course sessions in a classroom setting.
  • Assist in student evaluation of ROME students.
  • Facilitate Off-campus Service learning opportunities.
  • Assist with recruitment and interviewing applicants for the Rural Scholars Program.

Physical Requirements

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
