Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Finance Data Analytics and Reporting team creates roadmaps for technology and analytic tools necessary for the University's budget and planning needs. This includes providing critical assistance in data analytics and financial modeling, developing templates, dashboards and long-range financial models for the division. The team also develops standardized data for effective and consistent finance and budget reporting throughout campus and for the UNC System, as well as lead the development and implementation of reporting and data warehouse capabilities, using existing tools and acquiring new systems to achieve the University's evolving financial objectives.
Position Summary
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC-Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Senior Financial Analytics & Reporting Analyst serves as the senior individual contributor within the Financial Data Analytics & Reporting team, supporting the development, maintenance, and enhancement of financial reporting, analytics, dashboards, and data solutions that support the University's budget, planning, and operational decision-making processes.
The position partners with Finance, Human Resources, ITS, and campus stakeholders to deliver accurate, consistent, and actionable financial information. The role applies advanced analytical expertise to financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, data validation, and business intelligence initiatives.

This role requires extensive knowledge of UNC-Chapel Hill financial systems, business processes, and institutional data structures, as well as a comprehensive understanding of how financial and HR data interact to support budgeting, compensation analysis, position management, and long-range financial forecasting. The position routinely integrates information from financial, payroll, and human resources systems to provide a complete view of the University's financial and operational performance.

Deep understanding of the University's chartfield structure, funding sources, position funding methodology, budget development processes, and institutional financial controls is essential to ensure the accuracy and consistency of reporting used by campus leadership and external stakeholders. The position must understand how employee and position data flow through payroll, budgeting, and financial systems and how changes in workforce activity affect institutional budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.

Because the role supports critical recurring financial reporting, annual budget development, workforce planning, financial forecasting, and executive decision-making, a thorough working knowledge of UNC-Chapel Hill-specific financial and HR processes is necessary to ensure continuity of operations and maintain the integrity of institutional reporting. This position provides expert guidance on financial business processes, reporting requirements, data governance, and interpretation of complex financial and workforce data, enabling campus leaders to make informed decisions based on reliable and consistent information.
