Role Description The Direct Support Professional role is an on-site position located in Pittsboro, NC. This role focuses on providing direct, person-centered support to autistic individuals in our residential setting. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with daily living skills, supporting communication and social interaction, and implementing individualized support plans developed by clinical staff. The Direct Support Professional will help individuals participate in community activities, maintain safety, and build independent living skills while documenting services and progress accurately and promptly. The role also includes collaborating with families and team members, attending required trainings, and following all program policies and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality support.
Qualifications
- Background in Human Services or a related field, with a commitment to person-centered, strengths-based support.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills and Communication abilities to build respectful, trusting relationships with individuals, families, and team members.
- Knowledge of Intellectual Disabilities and autism, or willingness to learn and apply evidence-based support strategies.
- Ability to participate in Training, including learning TEACCH methods, behavior support practices, and safety procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, education, or related field preferred.
- Ability to support individuals with varying mobility, sensory, and behavioral needs, including assisting with daily living tasks as needed.
- Reliable transportation to the Pittsboro, NC site and flexibility to work assigned shifts, which may include evenings or weekends based on program needs.
- Basic computer skills for documentation, data entry, and communication; familiarity with electronic health records is a plus.
- Prior experience in direct care, autism services, or disability support is preferred but not required for highly motivated applicants willing to learn.
