Employees of UNCA are provided with a comprehensive benefits package as well as other resources, policies and programs to ensure a happy and healthy work/life balance. Benefit eligible employees have access to dental, vision and health insurance plans – eligibility begins on the first of the month following date of hire. Retirement plan contributions begin on the eligibility date following election and include employer contributions for either a defined contribution or a defined benefit plan. Optional disability plans are also available. Eligible employees have access to tuition waivers for up to three courses per academic year; employees may enroll at any of the constituent UNC System campuses. Also offered are group exercise classes, and free access to the campus recreation center for full time employees, vaccine shots are also offered on campus, pretax flexible spending accounts, 12 paid holidays and 24 hours of paid community service leave each year. Leave earning employees (staff and 12-month faculty) who work at least half of the working days of their first month of employment will begin accruing vacation and sick leave immediately. Paid parental leave after 12 months of continuous service.

Typical office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours on evenings/weekends as needed for meetings, presentations and special events to meet the needs of the department.

Position Summary
The Career Coach primarily provides individual one-on-one career coaching to meet students’ and alumni career development needs. The Career Coach will also support the development of workshops, resources, and programming to help students and alumni achieve their career goals. Oversees the Career Peer educator program, developing undergraduate students to provide first-line career education for peers within the Career Center. Utilizes career development and strengths theories to expand the scope of the program. Develops and implements a marketing and outreach plan for the Career Center to provide career education to all students – especially those not currently impacted by present initiatives.

Required Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor’s degree with 3 or more years of experience. Prior experience working with college students is a plus, preferably in the area of career coaching or mentoring.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Human Resources, or related field. Experience in career development or one-on-one coaching. Experience working with college students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, parents, alumni, and staff.
  • Strong desire to work with college students and support their career development goals.
  • Effective communication with strong written, interpersonal and presentations skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in career development theory, pedagogy, career coaching and assessment.
  • Familiarity with online career technologies and tools.
  • Organizational, detail-oriented, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Ability to gather and analyze outcomes data to evaluate and improve programs.
  • Familiarity with common marketing strategies (social media, newsletters, print and digital materials, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate the liberal arts mission and skills to constituents.
