This is a temporary position, typically completed in the first 2-3 weeks of June. If you are looking to make some extra money this summer, this job may be a good fit for you!

Each June, the UNH Survey Center conducts a statewide observational study of seat belt use, partnered with the New Hampshire Highway Safety Department and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Teams of two travel to various sites across New Hampshire to observe and record seat belt usage.

Employees holding this position will be conducting observational research in the state of New Hampshire for between the months of May and August. Their positions will be hourly and terminated upon completion of the project. They are required to have a vehicle, valid license, and reside in the state of New Hampshire for the duration of the project. They will be responsible for completing their observation tasks on assigned days. Ability to complete observation tasks will be weather dependent and are not considered essential staff.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Employees will drive to various locations in New Hampshire and record the required observation metrics at the designated times and locations.

Requirements

  • Drivers License

Minimum Qualifications

  • Background checks will be required for all non-usnh students/current employees.
  • Given the distance and start times of some sites, you must reside within NH and either within 20 miles of the UNH Durham campus, or within 10 miles of your partner’s starting location.
  • You must have a dependable vehicle and a valid driver's license.
  • You must be available 5 days out of the week, with at least one of those days being a weekend day. If you are applying along with a potential partner, they must have the same availability.
  • You must be willing to work a few long days, between 8hr and 12hrs, per week.
  • Mandatory training will be at our office, in Huddleston Hall, during the last week of May (the week before observation begins).

Schedule Structure

  • Observation days are assigned to each team of two based on availability and schedule needs. Each team is assigned between 20-25 hours per week during the first 2 to 3 weeks of June. The opportunity for extra hours may be offered based on scheduling needs and availability.
  • Teams will travel to various locations within the state of New Hampshire to complete 1-hour observation at each.
  • Weather-related cancellations will be rescheduled for the same day of the week later in the month.
  • Most observation days start between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM and finish between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, with total workdays ranging from around 8 hours to 12 hours.

General Study Structure (Day To Day)

You and your partner will determine the best place to meet up to begin the day, and one of you will drive from there. You must plan your departure time appropriately so that you are at your first observation site of the day and ready to start recording at the specified time of observation.
