The Classics Program of the Department of Classics, Humanities & Italian Studies at the University of New Hampshire invites applications for a RGSCP Postdoctoral Research and Teaching Associate position starting in August 2026, for a two-year term.

Duties will include teaching three courses during the academic year (2/1), pursuing an ongoing research agenda and contributing to departmental and RGSCP programming. Minimum qualification is a PhD in Classics or a related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses that will promote the mission of the Responsible Governance and Sustainable Citizenship Project (RGSCP), an initiative at the University of New Hampshire to promote humanistic study of ethics, citizenship, principled leadership, responsible governance and grand challenges. Among the classes that we already offer under this rubric are: “Athens, Rome and the Birth of the United States,” “Democracies and Republics,” and “Individual and Society in the Ancient World,” but there may be opportunities to propose new courses. The exact area of specialization is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching interests include ethics, political theory, democratic institutions, law and justice, are sustainability, as well as those who are interested in demonstrating the value of studying antiquity to illuminate issues in the contemporary world. The successful candidate will be qualified to teach Latin and/or Greek at all undergraduate levels, and will join a vibrantly interdisciplinary atmosphere in the University, the College of Liberal Arts, and the department. Compensation Pay Range

$66,585 annually

The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon the candidate’s qualifications.
