Essential Job Duties
- Answer calls regarding criminal activities on campus.
- Patrol the campus in search of possible criminal activities, and to deter criminal activities.
- Open buildings for normal campus activities.
- Secure buildings after school operations.
- Serve on foot patrol in promoting safety, and to interact with the public.
- Serve on foot patrol to ensure safety of residents in dormitories.
- Provide mutual aid to surrounding agencies as needed.
- Issue parking tickets to violators of the University of Montevallo parking regulations.
- Respond to calls regarding locked vehicle doors, dead batteries, and flat tires.
- Provide reports on incidents or offenses to the State of Alabama, and the University of Montevallo.
- Arrest subjects in violation of Alabama Laws.
- Respond to calls regarding fire alarms, and reset systems.
- Review facilities for problems after business hours, and contact maintenance accordingly.
- Provide safety escorts for students and faculty under distinct circumstances.
- Verify fishing permits at University of Montevallo College Lake.
- Requires a 12-hour shift.
Additional Duties
- Interact with students and faculty to promote a healthy relationship between the Police Department and the various organizations on campus.
- Ensure campus safety by investigating and deterring potential criminal activities.
- Attend training classes throughout the year.
- Remain in compliance with the State of Alabama guidelines for carrying firearms.
- Follow up on cases, interview potential suspects, and investigate leads in solving cases.
- Monitor traffic at various campus events.
- Remain available for on-call or change in shift work requirements.
- Knowledge of the State of Alabama's Title 13A and Title 32 and the impact in different situations;
- Knowledge of the University of Montevallo's housing rules and regulations and other policies;
- Awareness of the buildings and facilities (all doors, time the building is in use) to secure appropriately;
- Interpersonal skills;
- Knowledge of the safe use of firearms;
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing;
- Investigative skills and the ability to interview witnesses and suspects;
- Basic automotive skills;
- Basic computer knowledge;
- Knowledge of general public safety forms to include incident or offense forms, arrest reports, bond documents, trespass warnings, vehicle impoundment, state accident reports, and private property reports;
- Knowledge of fire alarm systems, fire alarm panels and locations;
- Knowledge of burglar alarm systems, burglar alarm panels and locations;
- Knowledge of surrounding area of Montevallo for mutual aid when called upon by surrounding agencies;
- Ability to maintain calm in volatile situations.
