Job Description
Nature and Level of Work:
Perform the maintenance, repair and testing of all campus fire alarm, fire suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers and to provide knowledge of fire safety regulations to campus building, remodeling and construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with preventative maintenance and repair, of all campus portable fire extinguishers, fire alarm systems and fire suppression system components including sprinkler systems, smoke detectors and fire alarm panels. Inspect, test, clean, maintain and keep records in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
- Assist with troubleshooting fire alarm systems and fire suppression system malfunctions. Determine appropriate repair requirements and perform or supervise the performance of repairs in accordance with NFPA standards.
- Respond to fires and/or fire alarms on campus. Perform liaison duties between MU campus personnel and local fire departments. Notify campus officials if there is a fire, the extent of the damage, and if campus departments must take any action following the extinguishment of the fire.
- Assist with building surveys to assure fire protection equipment and procedural compliance with NFPA, local and state laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Shift
7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Monday - Friday
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of experience in testing, repair and maintenance of fire safety systems including knowledge and application of NFPA, local and state fire safety standards and regulations.
- The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level I or equivalent NFPA certification.
- A high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is required.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license is required.
- Ability on a daily basis to:
- Grasp, lift, carry and set down objects of moderate weight (15-25 pounds)
- Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and stairs
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $20.00 - $23.00 hourly
Grade: GGS-E
