Job Description

The University of Missouri Libraries seek to hire a librarian to serve as the Digital Scholarship and Data Management Librarian. This position designs and delivers services to faculty and students that support scholarly research involving the use of digital platforms, analytic and computational software, and visualization tools for the purpose of research analysis, access, or preservation. The position consults with subject librarians and campus IT to support faculty and researchers as they plan for managing research data throughout the research life cycle. In addition, the position identifies and collaborates with campus partners focused on supporting research conducted by faculty and students. Reporting to the Director of Digital Initiatives, the Digital Scholarship & Data Management Librarian will provide vision and capability in the Libraries for further developing our capacity to meet the emerging research needs of faculty and students at the University of Missouri.

Responsibilities
Assists researchers in defining data stewardship needs, selecting appropriate data repositories, drafting data management plans, and ensuring compliance with funder policies
Develops and conducts workshops on data literacy, digital scholarship research methods, tools, platforms and best practices
Designs and delivers services that support use of digital platforms for data visualization, text analysis, and computational research and serves as a referral point for campus support
Identifies, gathers, processes, and maintains data to document and promote the impact of MU open scholarship initiatives, programs, and services
Identifies gaps in MU Libraries data management services and provides recommendations to address unmet needs
Collaborates with colleagues across departments to design, update, implement, or recommend data management services, policies, tools, or platforms
Works with the Director of Digital Initiatives to develop and maintain policies and procedures that effectively serve MU scholars and enhance operational efficiency
Supports Software and Data Carpentries workshops and activities
Collaborates with offices and programs on campus to support researchers in need of data management advice, including Office of Research, IT Research Support Services, the Grant Writing Network, Institutional Research, and identifies new partners and collaborations
Serves as a resource in the library on trends in digital scholarship
Serves on library & university committees
Demonstrates continuous professional development
Contributes to the profession through service and scholarship

Qualifications

Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or from a program in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA. Completion of minimum qualifications by the start date is required.

Candidates will be evaluated on:
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of best practices, policies, procedures and standards relating to data management and data lifecycle practices for academic research
  • Knowledge of and experience with data analysis tools and techniques
  • Demonstrated abilities in documentation, training, and consultation
  • Demonstrated abilities in communicating technical details to non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of and experience with publishing, copyright
  • Experience with or interest in developing basic programming and scripting skills

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary and librarian rank will be commensurate with experience within an expected range of $58,500-$70,000 per year. This position holds non-tenure track (NTT) faculty status.
